Hey peeps

004_zpsjrbd6cys

I’m back and practically dying to continue writing. I’m saying this with barely a clue as to the current drama blogging landscape and whether or not old good buddies are still around and willing to engage again (sob!).

I’m honestly happy to have taken this step and to be back to a little hobby I always felt was extremely gratifying; just watching something and then spazzing about it.

Oh, I’ve been watching alright! Watching but then wasn’t able to articulate how and what I felt towards what I’d just watched — like, what was the point of that, right?

Funnily enough, what spurred me to re-ignite the blog wasn’t anything from the recent roster of dramas (seriously, I watched ALL of Legend of the Blue Sea LOL — no comment) but Heartless City from back in good ole’ 2013!

Ah! The good old days. Remember them? Torrents and SRTs and things the youngsters today wouldn’t get.

Heartless City. Hmm… It happened after my umpteenth marathon of Infernal Affairs and its Japanese remake Double Face. I suddenly had this raging appetite for a rewatch and  I felt back in 2013 I had done this drama a great, great disservice. I had (gasp!) fastforward and skimmed through it and then wondered why nothing was making sense. After completing the show I owed this delicious thing a review — a better one. Hence, here I am. Stay tuned.

  1. I was at peace w my blogosphere losing you ! ! ! I didn’t know I miss u much. Muahaha

Heartless City still has a bruised up soft sweet hurting spot in me. I rem it fondly ugly, sobbing days with some batshxt rants, even if vaguely now. I’m old.

And currently watching SH Bund…Huang XiaoMing or SunLi doing things to you !?

    • woman you don’t wanna know how much i missed you and how absolutely relieved i am that you’re still active!

i really can’t believe i ever looked down on the drama. maybe it was nam gyuri and me being such a snob towards her but homg this show was solid! like WTHHHH…

i love love love shanghai bund. what a story. tbh i wanted to get into the cyf version bc c’mon he’s a legend but the hxm and sun li version was more readily available and subbed.
i thought the mainland remake was gonna be a mess for some reason with a wooden hxm but this is actually proving to be one of his best performances, he seems consistent. again i’m so in love with the story its the kind of stuff i dream about.

      • Ah I’ve blocked NGR out of my system… she’s the only weaklink but then that crazy lvl of plastic dullness does work 4 the character somewhat, and KYM’s JinSuk more than made up 4 the kickass lady representation. HXM is JoInSong when he is micromanaged by a diligent PD… a SongSH lvl of lulz when left alone to sashay. SunLi must’ve helped him tone down his hammy a tad too.

      • ngr did seem to try as hard as she could, i still struggled to accept her in her role.
gao xixi is brilliant. not sure how this version stands against the original but its definitely credible in its own right everything about it is very competent. for him to have squeezed out some quality acting out of hxm is a feat in itself.
do you know well known and respected gxx is in china? i’m curious how his new film will fare. it seems to currently be having some trouble thanks to wanda’s monopoly over screenings.

      • I’ve been good. Unfortunately, no current drama has really caught my attention… Sort of in a dry spell, but partly because I’m busy with real life.

        You watching anything? Any recommendations?

      • really? i feel like i’m currently overwhelmed. currently loving quartet (japanese drama) i did write a quick first impression on it. see if it tickles your fancy. there are fansubs for the first 3 eps so far (ep4 came out this week).
i’m getting good recommendations for more dramas. chief kim with namgoong min is meant to be good.

also watching the 2007 version of shanghai bund with hxm and loving that too. like it haunts your thoughts so well-written.
